The Scheldt Pocket Warrior (2/2)

To my surprise, in the summer of 2024 I was contacted again by the “Canada committee Knokke-Heist” and the “For Freedom museum” in Ramskapelle with the request to design a second soldier.

This sculpture is being donated to the Town of Sluis for their long-standing participation in “Canada Day,” an annual event commemorating the liberation of our part of the country by Canadian soldiers at the end of WWII.

During the 50th Canadian liberation march on Sunday 3 November 2024, my artwork was inaugurated by mayor Marga Vermue at the Hickman Bridge in Retranchement(NL).

This soldier will now be displayed next to the existing monument on this memorial site.
